Maryland’s chances of making the Big Ten Baseball Tournament took a severe blow Saturday night. Despite a decent performance from Zach Thompson, the Terps’ batting lineup did not make an impact until it was too late, letting Minnesota come away with a 9-3 win in the second game of their three-game series.
Maryland baseball’s run of good play against Big Ten foes has come to a halt in their series against Michigan. The Maryland Terrapins are officially back above the .500 mark for the first time since April 13th. Their four-game road trip through the Keystone State ended in victory, with a 5-2 win over the Villanova Wildcats at Plymouth Meeting.
This season, Maryland have proven that, if nothing else, they can win on the road and they can win against the Big Ten. On Friday, they did not disappoint, as they took care of the slumping Penn State Nittany Lions 5-2 in the first of a three-game series in State College.
After taking one out of three from Ohio State and beating Virginia Commonwealth 10-5 on Tuesday, the Maryland Terrapins are back on the road for another weekend conference series against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
After taking the first game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at home over the Ohio State Buckeyes, and cruising to an 8-3 lead in the second game, the Maryland Terrapins seemed on their way to climbing over .500 and winning another conference series. Their season-long issues with hitting and fielding seemed only a memory.
But as they had against Maine earlier this season, the Terps let a commanding lead slip at home in the second game. Unlike with Maine, Maryland could not recover to take victory.
ared Bernhardt has been a machine for the Maryland Terrapins lacrosse team this season, posting 38 goals and 23 assists entering Saturday’s game against No. 7 Ohio State. Bernhardt’s 40th goal of the season would end up a magical one, giving the Terps a 10-9 overtime win in Columbus, Ohio.
