After scoring the game-winning goal Sunday against then-No.14 Northwestern, Loren Sefcik has been named Big Ten soccer freshman of the week.
Sefcik’s goal came came in the 34th minute of Sunday’s match, a lofted shot from a narrow angle which capped off a 60-yard run and a tremendous run of play by the Terrapins. The goal delivered Maryland their first ranked win in four years. The goal was also the first of Sefcik’s career.
The Medina, Ohio native has put together a strong campaign her first year in College Park, starting 11 matches, and playing in every game so far this season. Sefcik is one of the seven Terps to have eclipsed 1,000 minutes played on the season.
She also becomes the first Terrapin player to earn the freshman of the week honor since Mikayla Dayes in August of last season.
