The 6-foot 165 pound athlete had a difficult decision to make, choosing Maryland over Rutgers, Temple, and Toledo.
Gater is ranked No. 6 athlete in Washington D.C, and No. 87 athlete in the country per 247sports.
Gater will come to College Park playing cornerback, a much-needed position that the Terps struggled with at times last season.
With this commitment, the Terps now have the No. 12 recruiting class in the Big Ten and No. 57 in the nation for 2019 per 247sports.
