Three years ago, defensive end Byron Cowart was the nation’s No. 3 recruit and chose to play football at Auburn University.
Now, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound has picked to continue his career at the University of Maryland after leaving Auburn on Sept. 19 due to lack of playing time on one of the nation’s top defenses.

Cowart is currently enrolled at Hillsborough Community College (Fla.) but did not play football this past fall. He is expected to enroll in January and has two years of eligibility left.
Cowart originally visited Maryland in his senior year at Amwood High School in Florida, but picked Auburn over the Terps and Florida. He is currently listed as a three-star prospect out of junior college, according to 247Sports.
