Dazz Newsome reopens recruitment

Hampton (VA) 3-star athlete Dazz Newsome reopened his recruitment Saturday, he announced on his Twitter account.

Newsome originally committed to Maryland on Oct. 9. The decision to reopen his recruitment comes while he is on an official visit to North Carolina. He is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech next weekend, where his older brother Deon plays. His father Myron played in Blacksburg in the ‘90s.

The electric athlete noted the Terps aren’t ruled out when he makes his final decision on national signing day on Feb. 1.

Newsome is the second one-time Maryland commit to reopen his recruitment in this cycle, joining 5-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh, who ended up at Florida State. He is also the first player to reopen his commitment since heralded state of Virginia recruiter Mike London left the Terps’ coaching staff to become the head coach at Howard.

Despite Newsome’s decommitment, Maryland’s class of 2017 remains No. 17 in the nation and is still on track to be one of, if not the best class in Maryland history.
