University School of Jackson (TN) 5-star offensive tackle Trey Smith committed to the University of Tennessee Tuesday afternoon, he announced during a press conference in his school’s auditorium.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle is the No. 5 player at his position, the No. 3 player in Tennessee and the 25th ranked overall prospect in the nation, according to the 247sports composite rankings.
Smith chose the Volunteers over Alabama, Clemson, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Notre Dame. He is Tennessee’s highest-rated commit in their now 24-man Class of 2017. Smith joins 3-star recruits Riley Locklear and K’Rojhn Calbert as offensive tackle commits in this class.
With only two upperclassmen at the position for this upcoming season, Smith will have a chance to come in and prove himself as the elite offensive tackle Butch Jones recruited him to be.
