In May 2013, Maryland men’s soccer alum Robbie Rogers became the first openly gay man to take the field in a North American professional soccer game. Earlier this season, Rogers teamed up with his former Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski to make his alma mater proud.
Rogers helped inspire United Maryland Night, which celebrated the LGBTQ community. Though Rogers wasn’t in attendance, his message touched members of the crew and Maryland’s student athletic trainer Matthew Bower.
