Three-star athlete Dazz Newsome commits to Maryland

Hampton (VA) three-star athlete Dazz Newsome verbally committed to the University of Maryland Sunday evening. He announced his decision on his Twitter account.

Newsome is Maryland’s 19th commit for the Class of 2017. He is yet another commit from the Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia area, which head coach D.J. Durkin is trying to lock down. Traditionally, Maryland has been proficient at keeping talent from Maryland and D.C. home, but has struggled with Virginia talent. Newsome becomes the Terps’ second commit from Virginia in this class, joining Lake Braddock tight end Andrew Park.

Newsome’s commitment helps the Terps’ Class of 2017 leapfrog USC into 16th overall, according to 247sports team rankings. Newsome is the 35th ranked player in Virginia and the 83rd best athlete in the country, according to 247sports composite rankings.
