After Winter Storm Jonas caused several game delays, the No. 5 Maryland Women’s Basketball team will now travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Penn State Lady Lions (8-11, 3-5 Big Ten) Wednesday night.
The Terps (17-2, 6-1 Big Ten) are on a five game winning streak after a blowout 90-65 victory Wednesday at Wisconsin. Guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and center Brionna Jones led the team, with 22 points each. Tierney Pfirman put up another 15 and Kiara Leslie added 12 points.
Maryland’s biggest enemy going into Wednesday’s match will be inactivity. In a season where it isn’t uncommon to play three games in seven days, the Terps will be a little rusty going into their first matchup in a week.
Penn State, on the other hand, played Saturday in Illinois: a 65-56 victory. The Lady Lions came back to win after trailing Illinois by 11 points late in the third quarter. Guard Teniya Paige led the team with 27 points, 13 of which were scored in the fourth quarter. Brianna Banks added 12 points, and Kaliyah Mitchell tallied another nine.
In recent Maryland-Penn State matchups, the Terps are 2-2. Last February, Walker-Kimbrough scored 21 points to lead the Terrapins to a 77-62 win before winning again later that month 65-34.
The Terrapins and Lady Lions tip off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed online at BTN2Go.com.
